Site Store Pro supports full international currency and VAT configuration. Once you set your merchant country and currency, the platform automatically handles VAT-inclusive display pricing for domestic buyers and transparent VAT removal for US and Canadian cross-border customers.

Merchant Location & Currency

Navigate to Admin → Shipping & Taxes Console (/admin/ecommerce/shipping) and locate the Merchant Location & Currency section.
An amber warning banner is shown in the admin panel when you select a non-US/Canadian merchant country, alerting you that VAT-inclusive pricing mode will activate.

Common Currency Examples

Currency Symbol Propagation

Once saved, the currency symbol is applied consistently across the entire storefront:

Shop Catalog

All product listing prices use the configured symbol.

Product Details

Individual product page prices and variant pricing.

Cart & Drawer

Shopping cart and slide-out cart drawer totals.

Checkout & Confirmation

Order review page, checkout success page, and order confirmation emails.

VAT-Inclusive Pricing

VAT-inclusive pricing activates automatically when your Merchant Country is set to any country other than the United States or Canada.

How Prices Are Stored

The database always stores ex-VAT (net) values in the public_price, wholesale_price, and sale_price columns. VAT is applied at display time — never stored in the price itself.
This means your stored prices are always the net amount, and the VAT rate is layered on at render time based on the customer’s location.

Domestic VAT (Merchant Country = Customer Country)

When a customer is located in the same country as the merchant:
  • All prices are displayed inclusive of VAT: net price × (1 + rate/100)
  • The order review page shows an informational line: “Includes VAT £X.XX”
  • This is a breakdown label only — it is not an additive charge on top of the displayed price

Cross-Border VAT Removal (US & Canadian Buyers)

When the platform detects a buyer located in the US or Canada:
  1. The order subtotal is divided by (1 + rate/100) to strip the embedded VAT
  2. No VAT line is shown in the order summary
  3. The customer pays only the net price

Dynamic Tax Labels

The tax label displayed at checkout adapts automatically to the customer’s country:

VAT Rate Source

The merchant VAT rate is looked up from the shipping_countries table. The system matches the merchant’s configured country code where charge_vat = 1 and reads the custom_vat_rate column. Example: A UK merchant (GB) with custom_vat_rate = 20 results in 20% VAT applied to all domestic display prices. To update your VAT rate, navigate to Admin → Shipping & Taxes Console and edit the VAT rate for your merchant country in the shipping countries table.

Caching & Performance

Currency and VAT configuration is cached for 60 minutes. Saving your shipping configuration in the admin panel automatically flushes this cache, so changes take effect on the very next request.
The platform handles all currency symbol propagation, VAT rate lookups, cross-border detection, and price formatting automatically. No code changes are required when switching currencies or VAT rates — simply update the settings in Admin → Shipping & Taxes Console and the storefront updates immediately.

Third-Party Tax API Integration

Site Store Pro includes a structured integration point for Avalara (or similar tax API) services. Contact your implementation partner for details on enabling a live tax API connection.
